Resumes...cover letters...and applications are ruining my life

So I'm filling out this application for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for this really cool job monitoring tern colonies off of Cape Cod on the Elizabeth Islands....and after being rejected from 4 other internships in the past 7 days I've just really lost my job hunting mojo (wouldn't be the first time..haha).  The thing I don't seem to understand is why these jobs are asking for people with Bachelor's degrees and little experience and once I apply they tell me there were applicants with "extensive field experience" and wish me good luck on my hunt.  OK Ms. Fish & Wildlife Service Employee, please direct me to the job where I can gain this extensive field experience.  Please and thank you. ;)

So I've begun to realize that my time spent at Northeastern which has given me a shitload of loans was basically a waste.  I tried taking advantage of their co-ops but I guess I didn't push myself to find one when no one was hiring and because I was scared of ending up with no co-op and having no classes to take.  Then there's the whole what did I spend my last 4 summers doing issue....oh yeh...I went to Greek Camp because I really wanted to give back to my community which actually helped me get through my teenage years in one piece.  I guess in the process of choosing the best path to follow, I royally fucked myself over...at multiple junctions.

What am I to do now?  I'm a college graduate with little to no experience and it's actually all my fault.  I know I'm sounding extremely pessimistic but I'm almost 23 years old and the only examples I have in my family are two parents who had me at 24 and are now having their own mid-life crises because they had dreams and weren't able to do what they loved.

I feel trapped in my house....and overall just bored to death because I have no plan, no schedule, and no order.  I'm really scared that if I don't find like 50 more internships to apply to by the end of march then my chances of landing a job by summer are slim, and I'll have actually spent a whole year doing nothing but working at a pizza store.  I guess I could really use some advice.  Or maybe a godsend?

Sigh. :(

Anddd!!! NEW TITLE!!!

So....after just bitching about my latest experience in the job search, I've decided to expand my blog's attention to not just my awkward moments, but also my job-hunting moments...which are probably just as awkward and hilarious..even if I don't want them to be. Hopefully this will give me increased writing freedom as I haven't been posting as much as some people would like me to :X.

I'm fucking tired of this...

Making Greek Desserts!!! With Yianni!!!!

So...a couple buddies of mine..and I...have taken a recent obsession with Koliva, which for followers who don't know, is the Greek "ritual food"that is blessed during funeral/memorial services or Mnemosyna for our beloved departed ones.

As it is traditional to fast before Divine Liturgy...aka not eat breakfast, we religious folk (or maybe just me) are borderline anemic around 11:45 as we have not eaten forever and if we are lucky...and someone has recently died or it is the anniversary of their passing away...we get KOLIVAAAA!!!!!! WHAT WHAT!!!

Not my koliva, but i wish it was!

It's only the best, most delicious stuff ever and as soon as Liturgy is over I take 2 bags...one for me and one for me, and scarf them down.  Koliva is basically boiled wheat kernels with almonds, crushed walnuts, sugar, pomegranate seeds, anise, cinnamon and raisins..THEN topped with powdered sugar! YUM! In my opinion, the best way ever to remember my grandmother who fed me sugared treats until I became obese at the age of 2. YES, I know what you're thinking. Yianni...obese? But it's true. (I will not provide pics. Suck it hatahhsss!!!)

Sooo....I don't know everything about being Greek Orthodox cause I'm only human..so I didn't know until yesterday that we were allowed to make koliva and eat it whenever we wanted!! Although I'm not 100% sure if its blasphemous or heretical to put whipped cream on top like some recipes call for...but I don't see any problem making the good ol' stuff every day sooooo...

Curious to learn more about my religious traditions, I did what any person would do and immediately wiki'd it on my Android, and found out all this other cool stuff about it!!...like:

In the Japanese Orthodox Church (Asians + Orthodoxy= WIN) where rice is the main grain (hehe I just rhymed) they substitute rice for wheat grains in their koliva....which I find kinda weird but they're Asian so just roll with it (get it? ROLL with it?!) ahahaha....I know...I'm a horrible person.  But you know I love it ;O

The wheat kernels represent everlasting life and the resurrection because they are a seed, and every spring, seeds begin a new life cycle & grow into plants and make more seeds, and then you have infinity seeds and that's just beautiful!

Anyways,  I'm still torn between wanting to feast upon koliva whenever possible, and eating it only on religious occasions, because I can see from both sides of the issue.  On one hand, koliva is delicious and amazing and should be made into granola bars that I can eat whenever and wherever I want, and on the other hand if I did do that... koliva would lose its religious significance and symbolic meaning as I'd be treating it like any other food I ate.

If you want to know a little bit more about koliva, here's an awesome link I found...and repeated some information from already. :P

This link has the recipe as well for those of you who don't have an obligation to uphold its religious integrity.  (Not judging any of you...hahahaha)

Till next time,

Riding on the T and pissing people off!

After my many experiences on the T, which have included sexual harassment against me, attempted abductions by creepy old men, and Backstreet Boys singing by drunken homeless men...(I will go into detail about these stories some other time)....I've decided I too will ruin everyone's T experience and join in on the festivities!  So I've recently been warming up my acting skills to appear as an acid-tripping, psychedelic loving hipster while blasting the SICKEST electro beats everrr to ward off creepsters and normal people alike.  So far my plan has been to find an isolated seat in back, slouch down, close my eyes, and dance like I'm seizing in my chair (minus the foaming like a dog part) to songs like Baptism by Crystal Castles, which is literally like partying with Jesus. Seriously, check them out! They're CRAZYYYY!!!! And the best part is it's working!!! Every time I take a peak people are staring at me with disgust. That's right strangers!!! Leave Yianni alone and keep yo' creepy-ass salad fingers to yourselves!!!

Crystal Castles! (Not my image)

BLOG UPDATE!

Sooo....I'm gonna attempt to make this post a little more in-depth than my last few....cause I want to be a super famous blogger and get lots of followers and you gotta keep up with the best if you wanna be the best...and so..

I will begin today's blog by discussing the most awkward event of this past week. Firstly, you must understand that Cambridge residents are weirdos and they like to come into my work wearing the most ridiculous and crazy shit I've ever seen. Generally, I laugh my ass off because their insanity amuses me.  But this past Sunday I witnessed the worst offender at all.  A man, his wife and their newly-born walk into the restaurant and he is wearing a pants that looked like a cross between MC Hammer pants, athletic shorts, and those weird baggy hemp pants that every English teacher I've ever had wore.

DIDN'T YOU HEAR MC HAMMERS SONG?!?! YOU CAN'T TOUCH THIS!!!
this image does not belong to me

But that's not all! He was wearing long-johns under his crazy athletic man-capris, and had thick wool socks rolled over them.  As much as I wanted to push this guy off a balcony, I proceeded to take their order as I'm poor and require his tippage.  Soo...all is fine...and the couple eat their meal...and a family arrives at the door, waiting to be seated.  As I directed the family to a four-seater I realized I had just given them front row tickets to the woman's breast-feed-a-thon!

Not my Image...but given recent events on Kim & Kourtney Take New York...I found this appropriate.

I attempted to shield the family as best I could, but alas, her boobage was everywhere.  The family reacted similarly to me except for the son who's eyes widened and did not avert immediately like his mother's....and in the end I got tipped over 20% from them so I guess Hooter's really does know what's up!!

-Until next time!,
